Profenofos 40 + Cypermethrin 4 is a powerful agricultural insecticide, often an emulsifiable concentrate (EC), that combines two active ingredients to control a broad range of chewing and sucking pests, including bollworms, aphids, and thrips. It acts as both a contact and stomach poison, rapidly killing insects by disrupting their nervous systems through inhibiting acetylcholine (profenofos) and prolonging sodium channel opening (cypermethrin).
Mode of Action : Profenofos (Organophosphate) : This ingredient inhibits the acetylcholinesterase enzyme, which breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine, overstimulating the insect's nervous system and causing paralysis and death.
Cypermethrin (Synthetic Pyrethroid) : This acts on the nervous system by prolonging the opening of sodium channels in nerve cells. This causes repetitive firing and disrupts normal nerve impulse transmission, ultimately leading to paralysis and death.
Common Uses : Target Pests : Effectively controls chewing pests like bollworms, caterpillars, and beetles, and sucking pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and thrips.
Suitable Crops : Used on various crops, including cotton, vegetables (like brinjal and cabbage), fruits, oilseeds, and pulses.
Key Features : Dual Action : Provides both contact and stomach-based action for comprehensive pest control.
Broad - Spectrum : Effective against a wide variety of insect pests in a single application.
Rapid Knockdown : Delivers quick results by rapidly eliminating pests.
Long - Lasting Protection : Offers residual activity to provide extended control, reducing the need for repeated applications.
Application : The product is usually an emulsifiable concentrate (EC).
It needs to be mixed with water and sprayed uniformly, ensuring it reaches the undersides of leaves. Application should be done once insects appear and potentially again 10-15 days later. Avoid spraying just before heavy rainfall to allow the insecticide to adhere to the leaves.
